Some of you might have already missed E3 this year. If you didn’t, some of you still might not know that some of these games they showed were in fact indie games. Since crowdfunding sites have been around, it’s been a lot easier for indie game developers to get their funding so they can get their projects self-published, and seen by thousands of viewers. Today I will showcase some of these games. These are my top 15 favorite indie games of E3 2016:

Zoink Games, a small studio located in Gothenburg, Sweden developed Fe. Fe will be the first of the EA Originals, which EA Studios has started to support and help small game developers to be heard. Fe is one of my top 15 because of the stunning graphics. The developers worked really hard on creating this amazing environment, and I think the lighting looks fabulous.

Absolver is developed by an indie studio called Sloclap. It is located in Paris, France, and founded in 2015 by artist, designers, and programmers that met while working at Ubisoft. They have been working on this game since May 2015. Absolver is an online melee action game. Playing as a prospect, are chosen to join an elite corps of combatants called the Absolvers. Along the way, you learn new combat skills, acquire better weapons, powers, and armor. The gameplay to me looks really fun because the features include, fluid real-time combat, customizable style / flow, multiplayer action, and PvP (Player vs Player) and PvE (Player vs Environment).

This looks like a fun idea for a video game. This game was inspired by the old cartoons of the 1930s, and the audio and artwork were created using the same techniques they used in that era. It’s a run and gun game called Cuphead, created by StudioMDHR. It’s mainly focused on boss battles. The creators of the game said it was going to be released last year, but with Microsoft helping them, they were able to make it into the game they’ve always dreamed of. When the game is ready, it will be released on XBox One, and Steam.
4. Night in the Woods

Night in the Woods is a game created by Finji. After a successful Kickstarter in October 2013, the game will be released this year to PC/Mac/Linux and PS4. This is an action-adventure game focused on exploration, story, and character. In summary, the game is about a character named Mae Borowski, a college dropout, who returns home to her former mining town at Possum Springs. There, she seeks to resume her life and reconnect with her old friends. But things have changed and strange things happen.
5. Shadow Warrior 2

Shadow Warrior 2 is created by Flying Wild Hog, a game production studio located in Warsaw, Poland. The story starts five years after Lo Wang shattered the alliance between his former boss and the gods of the shadow realm. Lo Wang’s efforts to annihilate darkness corrupts the world, creating a strange new order where humans and demons live side by side. The game features four player co-op, a custom upgrade system, and will be released on PC and Console platforms.
Pyre is created by Supergiant Games. It is a party-based RPG in which you lead a band of exiles to freedom through a competition, spread across a mystical place. The artwork on this game is amazing, and will be released in 2017.
Vampyr is a Horror-like action RPG that takes place in the streets of 20th century London. Playing as a vampire, you decide who to spare, and who to kill. This year at E3 2016, the Vampyr team won the best of RPG and was nominated for the GamersPack “Choice of the Pack – Roleplaying” award. This game will be released on XBox One, PS4, and PC platforms.
Tyranny is created by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Paradox Interactive. It’s an RPG game where you play as a Fatebinder, and you decide the fate of the people of the Tiers. Tasked with making decisions, you develop a reputation based on your deeds.
9. Crossing Souls
Crossing Souls is a game created by a small indie group called Fourattic. The game takes place in 1986, in California. A group of friends make a mysterious discovery outside of their town. Their curiosity triggers a series of events that get them involved in a governmental conspiracy, and a U.S. Army general with his own nefarious plans. This is a pixel art action-adventure game where you explore, solve puzzles, and fight to avoid a war between two worlds. You can pre-order the game now. It will be released for Mac, Linux, and Windows operating systems.
10. The Forest
For many of you horror fans, The Forest is a horror-survival game developed by Endnight Games. The game features changing weather patterns, plants that grow/die, tides that roll in, and a network of caves/underground lakes. Explore during the day, and fight during the night. Other features include tool and weapon crafting. Your goal in this game is to defend yourself against a clan of genetic mutant enemies. The game will be released for PC and Oculus Rift.
Golem is a game built from the ground up by Highwire Games, which was founded in Seatle, Washington. In this game, you play as a kid who is stuck at home because of his injuries. You gradually develop the power to control golems and see through their eyes. As your powers grow, you can control bigger golems to explore an ancient city. Golem will be released for the PlayStation VR.
12. 100ft Robot Golf
100ft Robot Golf is a PlayStation 4 game developed by a team called No Goblin. 100ft Robot Golf is a real-time golf game where you get to control giant-sized robots and fight your way to par. The game features solo and multiplayer modes up to four players. The game also allows you to use a VR Headset.
Rime is another Playstation 4 Game developed by Tequila Works and published by SCEA. Rime is an adventure game about a boy who must try to survive, and escape from a mysterious island and a terrible curse. The game features an open world gameplay that allows you to explore and puzzles to solve.
14. Hyper Light Drifter
Hyper Light Drifter is an indie game developed by Heart Machine. This game is a 2D Action RPG. The graphics were made to look like the classic 16-bit games, but with modernized mechanics. This game is already out fo PC, Mac, and Linux, but will soon be released for XBox One and PlayStation 4.
Abzu is a game created by Squid Studios and published by 505Games. Abzu is a game where you explore amazingly rendered environments under the sea. The name of the game is a combination of the two ancient words AB, meaning ocean, and ZÛ, meaning to know. ABZÛ = ocean of wisdom. This game will be available very soon on August 2, 2016 on PlayStation 4 and Steam.
